Renovate this historic property and live on one of the most famous waterfront properties in Hawaii! The property is steeped in Hawaiian history and is one of the most beautiful oceanfront properties along the Kona coast. Midway between Kona and Keauhou, this is an ideal location for the discriminating buyer who wants to experience a slice of old Hawaii. Imagine sitting on
the lanai and reading about how King Kamehameha learned to surf here. This was the gathering place for Hawaiian royalty and later on for Kona residents along Alii Drive.
Nestled between two of Hawaii Island's premier surf beaches, Banyans and Lymans, the property has 250 feet of direct waterfront. The 0.78-acre property hosts two old homes totaling 2,800 square feet. The houses can be renovated keeping the existing footprints and breakwater foundation walls as well as the old swimming pool right on the water. Additional square footage can be constructed on the Alii Drive side of the homes. The existing setbacks remain in place because the homes were originally permitted in 1957. There are no archaeological or heritage site issues.
This one-of-a-kind historic property has full on views of a multi-colored turquoise bay, the coconut grove at Kamoa Point, the surf and the most spectacular sunsets year around. Sit on your lanai and watch the surfers with 180-degree views of the ocean and coastline. Watch the paddlers, whales and sight-seeing boats pass by. Listen to the waves and watch the ever-changing tides.
The main home boasts 2,134 square feet under roof and has 4 bedrooms and 3 baths. The second home has 660 square feet, 2 bedrooms and one bath. There is also a carport. The residences are single-wall construction.
This is one-of-a-kind opportunity. The Seller's agent has had discussions with the county planning department and has a full understanding as to what can be done to turn this into your one-of-a-kind oceanfront home!

Laimana hosts two homes on the property, both built in the 1950s. Typical of the historic era in which
they were built, they are single-wall construction with concrete floors. These homes have previously
approved county permits, and along with the swimming pool and seawall located on the property, are
permitted, legal non-conforming structures. The property has county water and is hooked up to the city
sewer. The County Planning Department has indicated a willingness to work with buyers for the
renovation of the two existing homes and the swimming pool. Additional living areas can be
constructed on the mauka (Alii Drive) side of the property with a 40-foot setback from the shoreline.
Imagine entering the property through a gated driveway off of Alii Drive, so close to everything Kona has
to offer. Walk through the front door of your own exclusive, historic Hawaiian residence. Straight
ahead you see the beautiful Lymans and Banyans surf spots. Hear the swoosh of the waves rolling in.
Enjoy your morning coffee or an afternoon cocktail on a beautiful lanai while watching the surfers
navigate the waves. When the surfers are not out, watch the snorkelers and paddleboarders. In the
mornings, the paddlers come by in their outrigger canoes. In the winter months, the whales are
breaching right out in front of you. And then there are the beautiful sunsets – some nights orange,
some nights pink – and the sky becomes a palette of beautiful colors. Laimana is a place where you can
bond with your family and guests. It is a special place where you can unwind and forget about
everything but the sheer beauty and peace of this special piece of property.
You will proudly enjoy one of the most desirable historic homes on the Kona Coast.
The property is zoned for resort development, so you can obtain a short-term vacation rental permit for
the property. With 6 – 8 bedrooms in this location, the house(s) will rent for up to thousands of dollars
per night. Movie stars, celebrities and high-powered executives, along with the most discriminating
vacationers, will want to rent your luxury historic Hawaiian retreat called Laimana.
During my first trip to Hawaii in 1976 I knew immediately that this state was where I ultimately wanted to live.
After more trips to Hawaii, by 1992 I was ready to buy. Originally I planned to buy a condo on Kauai, but Hurricane Iniki diverted me to the Big Island where I bought a condo in South Kona. Since that time I have lived in Kohala, Waimea and now on Hawaii’s beautiful gold coast north of Kona.
Raised on a cattle ranch in Nevada, I have always had a love for the outdoors. My first career was in the mining industry, and I have a master’s degree in mining engineering. I have always been a trailblazer, being the first woman in the mining industry to lead publicly traded companies and undertake major projects.
My business experience is extensive. I have dealt with a lot of operational and financial issues such as borrowing and lending money for projects and acquisitions, working with legal counsel, and public stock markets. I have served as a director of a number of large companies. I have received a number of awards over the years for my professional work. I am a past Rotarian and have served on many non-profit boards.
In 1999 I built my own home where I live with my husband. My two children graduated from Hawaii Preparatory Academy in Waimea; thus I can advise families that are relocating about the schools on the Big Island. With their sports activities I traveled to almost every high school on the island for competitions.
I have held a contractor’s license in another state and I am experienced in looking at homes from a technical perspective including functionality, construction and remodeling possibilities to create value. I have worked with numerous architects, contractors and subcontractors on the Big Island.
My specific areas of service include Kailua Kona, Kohanaiki, Kukio, Hualalai, Waikoloa Beach, Waikoloa Village, Mauna Lani, Mauna Kea, Kohala by the Sea, Kohala Ranch, Waimea, Hawi, Keauhou, and Captain Cook.
